D’banj, Don Jazzy’s break-up: The true story

D'banj and Don Jazzy
Press is press, there is nothing like bad press, goes a popular lingo.
During the week, word was rife that top label, Mo’ hits had hit troubled waters as its president and vice president, Don Jazzy and D’banj had parted ways.

Earlier, it was reported that the pair had been arrested in the US for peddling hard drugs. Late Sunday night through Monday, Internet and Blackberry messages were flying around with the tale that the duo had been ‘arrested’ in the US with 1,000 kilograms of substance suspected to be narcotics. The reports claimed that they had even been detained by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

Predictably, Mo Hits, through its media managers had issued a press release in which it denied in very strong terms the rumours being peddled in the media about the pair being arrested. The statement from Mo’Hits reads in part: “We find it really mischievous and wicked for somebody to sit in the comfort of his home and send out messages capable of damaging the lives of his fellow human being.”

According to the press release, the pair were in Lagos and so could not have been arrested in far away America.
However, the pair kept quiet on the report that they had parted ways. Was this delibrate?
Reacting, their manager, Sunday Are had stated in a telephone chat that the news was coming to him as a shock as he was not aware of any such move.
However, while insiders insist that the story about the drugs was sheer mischief, they also suggest that the story about the break-up could have emanated from Mo’Hits.
Sources say the reasons for the move is not far fetched. It is in anticipation of the release of their international album later in the year.

“We live in the age of information and this guys understand the power of controversy. The story about the pair breaking up is bullshit! If it was true, they would have come up with a joint statement by now but they intentionally kept quite while the press celebrates, reinvents and regurgitates the story and all the while they enjoy media attention.
“It is only sad that it coincided with a time some lunatic somewhere decided to post tales about drug peddling involving them.”

According to the source, having forked out millions of naira to feature Snoop Dog on the remix of Endowed, the pair, who are currently signed onto Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music were living no stone unturned in making sure that their international album, which is currently in the works, comes out a success hence the controversy.
“As you know, controversy sells and this guys are simply tapping into it. D’banj and Don jazzy can’t do without each other. Nothing, not even money or women could tear them apart. All the tales about jealousy between D’banj and Don Jazzy is sheer nonsense,” the source added.
D’banj and Don Jazzy aside winning many awards were recently signed by American superstar, Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music.
