After impressive performances in the heats and semifinals of the 100m dash, Blessing Okagbare failed to sustain the tempo when it mattered most as she finished a distant 8th in the final of the Women 100m dash at the London Olympic this evening.
The Nigeria sprinter clocked a disappointing time of 11.01 seconds.
160 million Nigerians were routing for her and pinned all hopes on her, expecting her to be the first athlete to earn the country its first medal at the London Olympics.
Jamaica’s Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce won the race with a record time of 10.75 seconds ahead of Carmelita Jeter of the USA and Veronica Cambell-Brown of Jamaica.
